Keith Little, Cabinet member for Highways, says a request has officially gone to His Royal Highness to perform a second opening of the bridge. He said: “I believe in Springtime, there will be a further opening, which Prince Charles has been asked to attend.” Mr Little has also praised the community for its patience during the building of the first stainless steel bridge in the UK and the construction firm involved.

He said. “The council thanks the local community for its long forbearance in the construction of the bridge which has become an Icon for tourism, both now and in the future. “Also to thank our construction on site of Eric Write Ltd, the civil engineers and the architects, who have made this bridge a new icon for the area.” Christine Bowditch, Chair of the Council, was upbeat about the prospect of a Royal Visit to the county. She said: ”That’s lovely, to get to see the Bridge and Price Charles, that would be brilliant." Pooley Bridge is the UK’s first stainless steel road bridge, which open to traffic and pedestrians last month and replaced the 18th Century bridge, which was washed away by Storm Desmond in December 2015.
