A LAKE District art society's first ever online exhibition is now live.

It is the first time in its 40-year history that the event, held by the Ambleside and District Art Society, has been held digitally.

The event usually takes place in the Ambleside Parish Centre and is an important date on the regional calendar.

A society spokesman said: "This year we have not been able to hold our exhibition or have any meetings since March.

"Our society has many members who live alone and have had to socially isolate for the last seven months.

"Some have managed to continue to paint and draw but others have found it too difficult.

"We wanted to do something positive as a society and so, with no experience and very little knowledge, we embarked on the journey of creating an online exhibition."

The online exhibition is live until December 20 and has been created with the help of web designer Joe Derry Hall.

The spokesman said: "You will be able to explore paintings by 31 artists in a variety of media, with a wide selection of subjects and prices to suit every pocket."
