Christmas can be a very testing time for some, making it as magical as possible for children while continuing to try and make ends meet.
Walney Yellows U11s players, coaches and parents are each aiming to run 15 miles in 15 days to raise funds.
The money will be spent on providing essentials for families and small gifts for children while keeping the Walney team active throughout lockdown.
£500 was set as the initial target but the team have already raised more than £1,000 in donations.
A team spokesman said: “The current pandemic has only added to the stress and worry that some families will face in the coming weeks.
“We hope that this small contribution can help make Christmas a little easier for some.”
