STUDENTS in Year 7 at Walney School have been involved in a creating a Remembrance Day display this year, with a very personal touch.

Each student has researched their family history to find out about relatives who fought in conflicts in the past.

Every student has written a dedication to their family member and some have found out some interesting stories along the way.

Vicky Niblo assistant headteacher at Walney School, said: "We have heard stories of great grandads being held captive, uncles who fought in Afghanistan and we even have a dedication to a former Mayor of Ulverston on our wall.

"Where students did not have relatives who have been involved in conflicts, they researched soldiers from Walney and Barrow and made dedications to them. You never know, one of your relatives could be named on our corridors.

"In addition to this, the students have also been involved in supporting the Roundhouse Hub and Café to develop their Remembrance Day display.

"In Outdoor Education lessons over the past few weeks, students have been fashioning poppies out of recycled plastic bottles, many of which are being displayed outside the Roundhouse.

"The students enjoyed being involved in the community project and the activity followed on from the work they have been doing on reducing, reusing and recycling in lessons."
