THE latest Covid-19 figures for Barrow show a slight decrease in the amount of reported positive cases, compared to the previous week.

This was also observed by Director of Public Health Colin Cox at a recent online question and answer session.

He said: "The amount of cases we are seeing in Cumbria is going up, but the rate is lower here than in the country as a whole.

"Barrow has been falling and is now below the England average.

"The measures we have been asking people to follow is now working."

Public Health England figures show that there were 17 new people with a confirmed positive Covid-19 test result, reported on November 15.

129 positive cases were reported in the last seven days, 29 less than the previous seven day period.

The total number of people who have had a confirmed positive test result in Barrow-in-Furness as of November 15 is 1,857.

Sadly there was one new death within 28 days of a positive test for Coronavirus reported on November 15.

Seven deaths have been reported in the last seven days, which has seen no change compared to the previous seven day period.

And the total number of people who have died within 28 days of testing positive for Coronavirus as of November 14 is 86.

The current rate per 100,000 residents in Barrow is 182.

The latest R number for the North West healthcare region is estimated at 0.9 to 1.1, with a daily infection growth rate range of between -1 per cent and +1 per cent as of November 13.

In terms of hospital admissions in the North West, 306 people with Coronavirus had to go into hospital on November 12.

There were 2,919 people in hospital with Coronavirus on November 14 and there were 266 Coronavirus patients in North West hospital beds on a mechanical ventilator on November 14.

Nationally there were 24,962 new people who had tested for Covid-19 on November 15.

This gave a cumulative total number of people who had tested positive for the virus up to November 15 of 1,369,318.

England has reported 148,812 new positive Coronavirus cases in the last seven days.
