CHILDREN at risk of abuse in Eden are still facing difficulties from the first lock down .

Lack of a Designated Safeguarding Nurse and rising mental health issues in children have been a serious issue for Eden Council.

Liz McKie, senior manager for Children and Families, thinks the number of referrals involving children has risen sharply in the last month, having dropped temporarily during the first lock-down. Ms. McKie was speaking to Cumbria County Councils committee meeting for Eden. She said “Early intervention has been suggested to bring down the spike in figures in the district. Today’s high figures include children subject to child protection plans.” Ms McKie has offered up some ideas after she revealed that 28 children per 100,000 were now being subject to the protection order. She said: We need to do more now around the early help currently offered, to see that they get the help they need earlier on in their cases.”
