Five new coronavirus deaths have been announced at an NHS trust with hospitals in Cumbria.

The latest NHS England figures show there were four coronavirus fatalities at the University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust - which runs a number of hospitals in south Cumbria and Lancashire - on Saturday.

A further death was recorded the following day.

This takes the total number of patients who have died in the trust's hospitals and either tested positive for Covid-19 or had Covid-19 mentioned on their death certificate, to 227 since the start of the pandemic.

No new deaths were announced by the North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust - which runs the West Cumberland Hospital in Whitehaven and the Cumberland Infirmary in Carlisle.

The trust last announced a coronavirus death on October 22 and has recorded 191 deaths during the pandemic.

The latest Public Health England weekly figures for the number of new positive tests recorded in Cumbria for Covid-19 in the week leading up to October 27 are as follows:

Copeland - 101 (148.1 per 100,000)

Cumbria - 853 (170.6 per 100,000)
