Cumbria Trading Standards has said it has heard reports of cold callers operating in the local area.

A spokesman said it received calls of traders operating in the Millom area offering to carry out driveway work and targeting elderly residents.

The public body offered advice on how the public can stay vigilant against the cold caller traders.

“Remember to note important details such as vehicle registrations, business names or descriptions of the traders themselves,” said the spokesman.

“If you agree a contract for goods or services at home you should be given a statutory 14 day written cancellation notice - it is a criminal offence not to provide this.”

“If a trader provides any misleading information or uses aggressive behaviour such harassment, coercion or undue influence to get you to agree to a contract for goods or services - this is a criminal offence.”
