LOVED ones who have died in 2020 will be honoured at a virtual remembrance service next month.

The University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust will host a remembrance service for anyone who has been bereaved since the start of the year.

Broadcast live on the UHMBT’s YouTube page, the service is open to all families who want to join and remember someone significant in their lives.

The trust is urging anyone who would like a candle lit for a loved one to get in touch.

Reverend Ian Dewar, lead chaplain at UHMBT, said the grieving process can be ‘even more difficult’ at the moment due to the various restrictions around mourning because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

He said: “One of the most difficult things to deal with when a loved one dies is the speed at which life moves on.

“In times such as ours, with a pandemic, this can be made even more difficult because of the various restrictions placed around grief and mourning.

“With this in mind we are inviting you to an online service of remembrance that will have space to allow you to reflect on the life of your loved one.”

The service will be broadcast from Westmorland General Hospital in Kendal on Monday November 2 at 6.30pm.

Deborah Wilde, chaplain at UHMBT, said the Trust will be arranging candles to be lit in memory of those who have died this year.

She said: “Historically, November has been a time of year when, entering winter, people have taken time to pause and remember those who have died and what impact they had on their lives.

“As part of the service, we will be arranging for candles to be lit in memory of those who have died since the beginning of the year.”

If you would like a candle to be lit in remembrance of a loved one, please send the name of the person to either email ian.dewar@mbht.nhs.uk or equally requests can be sent by post to: Rev Ian Dewar, Chaplaincy Department, Royal Lancaster Infirmary, Ashton Road, Lancaster, LA1 4RP by Wednesday October 28.
