A MOTORCYCLIST is in hospital with serious injuries after a crash on a Barrow town centre road.

Emergency services were called to a one-vehicle crash on Cavendish Street around 1.40pm yesterday.

A cordon was put in place between William Hill and further down the street towards Duke Street.

A witness who was passing by the scene said that they saw a man lay on the ground being tended by paramedics.

A Cumbria Police spokesman confirmed a biker in his 30s was the only person involved in the crash.

No-one else was injured during the incident.

The rider had sustained serious injuries and was transported to Royal Preston Hospital.

The road was temporarily sealed off for approximately two hours before being reopened.

While the area was closed to cars, there was still access for pedestrians.

The cause of the crash is still unknown and is currently under investigation by Cumbria Police.

Labour Councillor Bill McEwan said: “Traffic incidents like this are of course of great concern to us here at the council and we wish the cyclist a full and speedy recovery.”

A police spokesman said: "Police received a call shortly after 1.40pm today (22 October) following a one vehicle road traffic collision on Cavendish Street, Barrow.

"The vehicle involved was a motorcycle. The rider, a man aged in his 30s, was taken to Royal Preston Hospital with serious injuries."
