YESTERDAY saw the largest single-day increase in the number of positive covid-19 cases in Carlisle since the beginning of the pandemic.

According to Government data on positive Covid-19 cases published by the Government, there were 61 new Covid-19 cases recorded in the Carlisle district.

Previously, the largest single-day increase in the number of positive Covid-19 cases identified in Carlisle was 45, on April 29.

Yesterday's 61 new cases brought the sum total of positive coronavirus numbers in the Carlisle local authority area to 1,296.

According to Government figures daily figures the total number of people who have tested positive for the virus stands at 789,229, the daily total for yesterday stands at 26,688.

The latest corona virus figures for Cumbria are as follows:

Across the county there has been 427 covid-19 related deaths.

Total number of deaths since the start of the pandemic of people who had had a positive test result for Covid-19 and died within 28 days of the first positive test.

There were 5,521 lab-confirmed cases of the virus in the county as of 7am today, yesterday there was 5,320, a rise of 201.

Allerdale cases- 712 up from, 673

Barrow cases- 1,325 up from 1,291

Carlisle cases- 1,296 up from 1,235

Copeland cases- 593 up from 575

Eden cases- 440 up from 415

As at 8.06pm yesterday the latest coronavirus figures are as follows:

UK deaths with 28 days of a positive result 44.158, yesterdays daily total was 191.

Deaths with covid-19 on the death certificate was 58,164.
