Police 'nearly smashed window' of drink driver's car in pursuit

Malcolm Edward Jones landed himself in the dock at South Cumbria Magistrates' Court after he was charged with drink driving in Barrow.

The 68-year-old admitted that he committed the offence in his Mini Cooper on September 1.

Magistrates heard the defendant had 102 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath, more than the legal limit of 35.

Barrow man to face assault charge in court

A MAN is due to appear in court after being charged with assault.

Ross Lambert is alleged to have assaulted Kevin Hinchley by beating him in Barrow on September 20.

The 27-year-old is scheduled to appear before the bench at South Magistrates' Court on Monday to face the charge against him.

The defendant, of Kent Street in Barrow, will be represented by Denby and Co Solicitors.

Barrow drug driver, 53, banned from the road

A MOTORIST has been banned from the road for drug driving.

Robert Osbourne was charged with driving his Ford Mondeo having taken cannabis on March 11.

The 53-year-old admitted the charge when he appeared before South Cumbria Magistrates' Court.

Magistrates sentenced him to a fine of £135 alongside a £32 victim surcharge and £85 costs.

Additionally, Osbourne, of Duncan Street in Barrow, was banned from driving for a total 12 months for the offence.

Barrow man found guilty after trial

A MAN has been convicted of failing to provide information relating to the identification of a driver alleged to be guilty of an offence.

Stephen James Jones denied that he failed to disclose information to police in Carlisle on March 13.

But the 33-year-old was found guilty of the offence following a trial.

Jones, of Vulcan Road in Barrow, was fined £663 by magistrates.

He was handed six penalty points and told to pay a victim surcharge of £63 and £310 costs.

Barrow man, 50, denies threatening behaviour

A MAN has appeared in court after he was charged with using threatening or abusive words or behaviour.

Craig Lynndon Postlethwaite faced South Cumbria Magistrates' Court after he was accused of committing the offence on August 19 in Barrow.

The 50-year-old defendant, of Salthouse Road in Barrow, entered a plea of not guilty to the charge.

He was granted unconditional bail and will appear in court next on November 20.

Warrant issued for man accused of assaulting police officers 

A WARRANT was issued for the arrest of a man charged with assaulting two police officers and possessing drugs.

Adam Lee Armstrong failed to appear before South Cumbria Magistrates’ Court after being charged with three offences.

The 30-year-old, of no fixed abode, is alleged to have assaulted PCs Harvey and Standway in Barrow on May 4 2019.

He is also accused of possessing class A drug cocaine and class B drug cannabis on the same date.

Magistrates issued a warrant.

Barrow woman fined for flouting lockdown rules

Thousands of pounds in fines has been imposed on seven people caught flouting strict lockdown measures.

In the first court of its kind in Cumbria, each of the defendants was sentenced for deliberately leaving their homes without a valid reason - going against the nationwide efforts to stay at home and protect the NHS.

Rachel Louise Gent, 36, of Water Street, Carlisle, was convicted of being out of her home in the city on May 14.

She was fined £440 and must pay a £44 victim surcharge and £85 costs.

Teenage drink driver from Barrow nearly collided with police car

 A DRINK driver narrowly avoided colliding with an oncoming police car, a court heard.

Lewis Uren appeared in court after he was charged with drink driving, having been spotted by police following an evening of drinking with friends.

Magistrates were told the 18-year-old turned into Ainslie Street from Abbey Road and overshot the corner, causing a police officer to brake to avoid a collision.

The defendant was said to have been told by an online test he would be under the limit but was later found to be marginally over it and pleaded guilty to the charge

Barrow woman, 51, accused of assaulting paramedic to face court

A WOMAN is due to appear in court after being accused of assaulting a paramedic.

Dawn Michelle Goodwin, of Egerton Court in Barrow, is alleged to have assaulted emergency worker Edward Pitt-Chambers in the town on August 26.

The 51-year-old defendant is due to face the charge when she appears before South Cumbria Magistrates' Court today.

Man accused of drink driving

A BARROW man is due to appear in court after being charged with drink driving.

Barrow man who harassed ex with calls and gifts made subject of restraining order

 A BARROW man who bombarded his ex-partner with unwanted messages, calls and gifts has been convicted of harassment.

Michael Stuart McCann landed himself in court after he repeatedly contacted his ex-partner Kathryn Williams over the course of five months.

South Cumbria Magistrates’ Court heard the couple had broken up after McCann ‘assaulted’ his partner.

The 26-year-old defendant pleaded guilty to harassing her between May 5 and September 1 when he appeared in the dock.

Describing the defendant’s behaviour, prosecutor Pam Ward said: “There was an incident when he assaulted her.
