A WOMAN was discovered to have entered the UK illegally after a Barrow restaurant was raided by immigration officers.

HK Diner in Church Street was raided by immigration enforcement officers on Thursday evening following intelligence by an unknown source.

An eyewitness confirmed he saw officers waiting outside HK Diner at around 5pm on Thursday.

Three vans, including a police car and two immigration enforcement vehicles, were spotted parked in Church Street car park.

Footage captured of the raid showed an officer knocking on the rear door of HK Diner.

The eyewitness revealed officers were knocking for some time before someone eventually answered.

A spokeswoman for the Home Office confirmed immigration enforcement officers were acting on intelligence when they visited HK Diner.

Officers visited the Chinese takeaway at 5pm alongside officers from Cumbria Police's licensing team.

Immigration enforcement officers undertook identity and visa checks within the takeaway and found there was no persons working illegally.

A 34-year-old woman, from China, who was living at the address was found to have entered the UK illegally.

The Home Office said she must now report regularly to Immigration Enforcement whilst her case is progressed.

HK Diner was approached for a comment but chose not to discuss the matter further.

HK Diner has been a popular Chinese restaurant in the Barrow town centre for a number of years.

IN November 2018, bosses submitted plans to convert the premises to add three more shops and nine flats.

The plans submitted to Barrow Borough Council revealed that nine self-contained flats would be added to the first and second floor. The plans were approved in January last year.
