A NEW vintage and retro fashion shop has been inundated with praise since opening its doors.

Ulverston's newest and most colourful addition to the town centre, WERK Emporium, has received waves of positive feedback since launching the independent business.

Set up by local singer, Becki Fishwick and youth worker turned shop-owner, Hannah Houghton, the pair saw a gap in the market for fairtrade, ethical and vintage fashion in the town.

Despite some concerns about opening a business during a pandemic, customers have been flooding through the doors to purchase some quirky and unique fashionwear.

Miss Houghton said customers have described their business as a 'breath of a fresh air' to to Ulverston.

She said: "We've had a lot of positive comments and feedback since opening the shop.

"I think people are happy to see a new shop open in the current climate rather than close.

"People said we are like a breath of fresh air with everything going on which is lovely to hear."

Miss Houghton said there has been a mixture of customers come in interested in buying sustainable fashion instead of unethical brands.

She said: "I think it's important to encourage ethical thinking in people from a young age.

"Younger customers especially are showing interest in shopping sustainably and ethically."

As well as championing ethical and sustainable shopping, WERK also promotes finding your own style and identity through fashion.

Miss Fishwick said: "Fashion is a great place to begin finding your identity and expressing yourself through clothes.

"It's a place where customers can experiment with their style and really discover their identity."

The pair is also hoping to eventually offer shop workshops and projects for young women and the LGBTQ community.
