The Mail readers have reacted with heartfelt comments to pleas to give Alfie, a dog currently in an animal rescue centre, a forever home.

Despite enquiries for the other pups, Alfie had not had one adoption enquiry since his profile went live.

Wendy Townley said: "Just filled the adoption form in. He deserves a loving home."

Jennifer Brooks said: "Please I hope and pray he gets a loving home which he deserves so much."

Sarah Gray said: "Doesn't matter how old or what his back ground is he still needs a loving home and security."

Val Smith said: "I would love him, I have a lot of love to give him."

Trisha Murat said: "Lovely dogs give 100 per cent love. We had two over the years, if I didn’t have two dogs already I would take him - come on someone give him a home."

Maxi Justmaxi said: "He needs a single person with no visiting children. That's why he hasn't had enquiries. It's hardly the public's fault."

Tina Horseman said: "Why do people keep bringing him back? Have they not even tried with this sweet fur baby?"

Sue Gowans said: "Terriers are a different independent style of dog. You can't change them nor should you want to."

Kerrie Walters said: "So sad hope he finds his forever home."

Brenda Reardon said: "I'm on my way you adorable fur baby."

Richard Murdock siad: "I'd have him as it's not been long since I lost mine to a tumour."

Christine Cox said: "I would love him he is just like my old girl I just lost."

Alison Adamson said: "I would take him, he can be with my other four. I will give him a home."

Hannah Ivy Dixon siad: "What a shame. If my dog wasn’t such a naughty little twerp and got on with males I’d take him, hope he finds a home."

Eileen Carrick said: "I would love him, but he needs a home with one adult, no visiting children and no other dogs. Much as we would love him, we fail on all 3 requirements."

Iris Nicklin said: "Please can I have him where is he?"

Paul Flag Ware said: "Poor little one."
