A COUPLE had the shock of their lives after finding a car wedged into their garden following a huge bang.

The pair, who had been relaxing at home, said they had no idea what could have caused the 'crashing noise' late on Thursday evening.

It was not until they looked out of the window of their Cartmel Drive home in Ulverston that they spotted a white car in the middle of their garden hedge.

The Mail:

Firefighters were called to the scene and freed the male driver who had became trapped.

The resident, who asked not to be named, said: "We heard a loud noise late at night and then when we looked out and there was a white car in our garden.

“There were police cars, ambulances, and fire engines here as the man had to be cut out of the car.

"The emergency crews told us they think he suffered from some form of ill health, which is why he went off course and into our garden.

The Mail:

“This hedge is about 40-years-old and has deep roots and the car went right over it.

“Our car was parked very close on the drive so it would have hit that if the bushes and conifer were not in the way."

Two fire crews, two ambulances, and two police vehicles were sent to the scene.

The resident added: "We have a big clean up job to do but we are just getting on with it.

“It is quite rare for this sort of thing to happen, so it is quite surprising that it has happened to us.

The Mail:

“I wouldn’t like to be out here every week cleaning up so it is a good job it doesn't happen very often.

“The main thing though - is that the person in the crash is okay."

A Cumbria Fire and Rescue spokesman said: “At 10.29pm on October 8, two fire engines attended a road traffic collision.

“One casualty was extricated by fire service personnel and left in the care of the ambulance service. Crews were in attendance for 40 minutes.” Police said they have investigated the incident and closed the case. The driver was not injured and the case was being treated as damage only.
