COMMUNITY leaders in Barrow have asked the Government to impose new Covid-19 restrictions to bring the area in line with measures taken in the North East and Merseyside.

This is what our reader had to say about this:

Isaac Moffatt said: Community leaders need to get a grip then.. If we started frantically testing everyone for flu the infection rate of that’d also appear to be rising at an alarming rate. Wouldn’t make it anymore of a threat though.

Jeffery Chelton said: Blame the pubs and the clubs and hospitality all the time but do not have the evidence pubs, clubs, and hospitality are abiding by the rules. It is not them so why should they shut them, you are killing the hospitality for good.

Alex Rayment said: The exponential rise in hospitalisations is very worrying.

Emma Flitcroft said: I had to go through to Barrow the other week from kendal for a covid test, how many others from away go that way to be tested and do they all go straight back home (like we did as OH had to get back to work) after it being done. Or do they decide to go and have a look in the shops on the way out, quite possibly passing on to others, with the thoughts of well we've driven x amount of miles we might as well have a look in the shops to make it worthwhile.

Dawn Mckellar said: Well people encouraged thousands of people from all over the country to 'visit Barrow'. What did they think would happen? Not the best idea when this virus is still prevalent. Hope it was worth it!

Susan Dwyer said: It's bloody stupid blaming young people and people who enjoy a drink, get a grip it can infect anyone.

Keith Berry said: It's obvious how the infection is spreading, loads of people are not wearing masks, also there are a lot of factory workers in the area in enclosed area, and finally after a few pints most people don't care. So the problem is mainly down to people not giving a damn.

Derek Smith said: I still don't see where the restriction of people meeting indoors or outdoors will help reduce the virus spread.

Carl Gaitskell said: Think about people's mental health and livelihoods before you think about messing around with the public again.
