Ulverston’s mayor has welcomed the news that 250 new jobs could be created in the town.

Last week it was revealed that if a new £350 million biopharmaceuticals site gets the go ahead, the company behind the development, Lakes Bio Science, will create 250 new jobs.

The public had chance to get their first look at the plans recently, and the proposals were welcomed by councillors at Ulverston Town Council this week.

Ulverston Mayor, councillor Sharon Webster, said: “It is a welcome addition to the town with the town council welcoming the new development for the site on a disused car park.”

The company formed more than 12 months ago from a collaboration of an industry-connected executive with many decades of experience between them.

Pat McIver, a founding director of Lakes BioScience said: “Lakes BioScience hopes to start work on the site this year.” A decision on the site will be made by SLDC.
