Parking fines handed out in the Lake District National Park since lockdown are more than double what they were over the same period last year.

Between June and September 2019, a total of 77 parking fines were handed out around areas of the Lake District, a figure that this year has risen to 184.

The increase in tickets handed out to rogue parkers comes after the national park saw an influx of visitors following the lifting of the Covid related lockdown.

A spokesperson for the national park authority said it has become a problem in recent months.

The spokesperson said: "All money generated by all car park income, goes back into looking after the Lake District and we do have some donation car parks.

"We have seen an increase in problematic parking this year and have had many new visitors to the park."
