The UK faces a 10pm curfew 'within two weeks' - with pubs and restaurants among those that will be forced to shut early.

According to reports by a number of national media outlets, it is understood the government is considering the drastic measure in specific local areas if there are further spikes in Covid rates.

Chris Grennell said: "These curfews are only happening in areas that have a Covid problem, the Furness area doesn't have a spike so there isn’t a need for a curfew, maybe the mail reporters need to check with the rest of the news media before printing yet more rubbish."

Christian Taylor said: "It's like the government has no clue what to do so they put ideas in a hat and pull one out, they need to sort it out quickly and more firmly before it all goes down the pan."

James Probert said: "If its open till 10pm.. May as well just leave it open until the times they are now. What does it gain except even more of a loss to the business already struggling."

Anita Fell said: "If this happens say goodbye to all the pubs that are all really struggling at the moment."

Julie Higgs said: "Well if these curfews are only happening in areas that have Covid problems then more than six people should be allowed in your home if there is no problem with Covid here then."

Darren Gill said: "Shut the pubs at 10 wow what a great idea,a good majority of the lake district is pub work so you want to give them less hours again, wonder if government can compensate loss of earnings to every employee in pub trade if this happens."

Gaz Wood said: "Shut the pubs at 10pm? This will just encourage more house parties?"

Dan Martin said: "Covid-19 knows how to count past six, and can tell the time, except at sporting fixtures, and when you're in the pub."

Julie Clarke said: "The governments thinks are that by 10pm people are becoming drunk and social distancing just happens?"
