A 10-year-old boy has decided to take up the Tour de Furness challenge to raise money for his school - after only recently learning to ride a bike.

Will Jones-Barnes, who attends Vickerstown Primary, will embark on the five mile cycle this weekend and has already raised just under £100.

The idea was to set himself a challenge, and if he can raise money for the school at the same time, it just makes it even better.

Mum Laura said: "We have done other charity events, he has done the Coniston to Barrow walk twice already.

"We saw this virtual version of the Tour de Furness was happening and we thought it would be a great thing to try.

"He has been out for some practise rides with his dad around Walney beach way.

"Hopefully when it is back on next year he will be able to do the larger route with more practise.

"The idea of doing it was to set a challenge for himself but if he can raise funds for the school then that is great as well."

Mrs Jones-Barnes believed it is important to take part in these events in order to help those charities that would have less fundraisers going on due to coronavirus.
