St Mary's Hospice have issued their thanks after a recently opened takeaway shop raised more than £1000 for them.

Pizza Time, based on Market Street in Ulverston, opened for the first time last week and decided to give all their proceeds to the hospice to celebrate the occasion.

They managed to raise £1050.60 on what will be an annual event to celebrate the shop anniversary and fundraising for the hospice. Which will be used to help care for those who really need it.

Becky Brown, area fundraiser for St Mary's Hospice, said: “We love to work in partnership with local businesses, and to receive such a fantastic donation from a brand new food outlet is wonderful, especially when Covid has impacted on corporate donations to St Mary’s Hospice.

"We’re grateful to Sarah Jayne, her team and her customers and look forward to continuing to work with them going forwards."

Sarah Jayne, 44, from Barrow has been involved with takeaways all her life and has decided to add this to her long list of projects.

The adult support worker and special educational needs teaching assistant has given a lot of her spare time to help charities in the area, and decided to support St Mary's Hospice as it is something close to her heart.

"I wanted to raise a bit more money for the hospice," she said.

"I do this because it is nice to be nice, and it is good to give back where you can.

"I do work in the disability sector which is a massive passion of mine, so I will continue to do that as well.

"Ulverston needs something like this. There are far too many takeaways in Barrow, so it is lovely to be opening in Ulverston.

"It will help to create jobs and get the local economy going.

"I have always worked in pizza takeaways with my family, then I had children, went into support work, then had more children.

"I am massively into charity work and supporting local causes. So this was a good way of combining both of my passions."

The mother of four spoke of how she almost started working for St Mary's Hospice, but due to her childcare commitments she could not do it. So this is her way of helping them by doing what she does best, fundraising and making pizzas.
