Staff at an Ellesmere school will be raising money for charity next after adding a special 5km run to their activities.

The staff at Lakelands Academy, in Oswestry Road, have added Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life to their timetables for the Autumn Term.

The special event will take place on Friday at 3.45pm., with around 30 staff set to unite for a socially-distanced 5km walk, jog or run to raise money for lifesaving research.

A spokesman for the school said staff were looking forward to getting involved: “Race for Life is a great addition to the staff timetable.

"We are really looking forward to taking part, it will be a real team effort and a great activity to do, all while raising money for an important cause.

"Sadly, most of us know someone whose life has been touched by cancer and we all have our special reasons for taking part and wanting to help more people survive.

"The money raised by Lakelands Academy will help support scientists to find new ways to prevent, diagnose and treat cancer, saving more and more lives.

"We thank everyone who has kindly sponsored the staff of Lakelands Academy and for all the support we’re getting from the community."
