New guidelines for funerals and burials will be in place from today.

Carlisle City Council has issued new guidance for the city’s cemeteries and crematorium, with numbers being reduced to fit with the Government’s latest rules on social gatherings.

In line with the guidance, the maximum number of attendees at a ceremony for a loved one is restricted to six, with 30 people allowed at graveside burials – with social distancing – and 24 people allowed in the crematorium and chapels for funeral services.

All restrictions have been put in place to conform to the Government guidance that no more than six people from multiple households are allowed to meet both outside and inside, in a bid to tackle the rising Covid cases.
