SEVERAL new cases of coronavirus have been recorded in Barrow.

The area made up the majority of 12 new cases of the virus in Cumbria over the last 24 hours.

At the time of writing, eight new cases were recorded in Barrow.

It puts the total number of cases in Barrow at 656, a rate of 978.4 per 100,000 people.

No new cases were recorded in South Lakeland.

A mobile testing unit has been in Barrow this week, with appointments available for the rest of the week.

Those without cars have struggled to book appointments for tests.

The Department of Health’s booking process has told people the website is ‘too busy’, advising people to keep trying.

Health secretary Matt Hancock announced plans to address the ‘enormous challenge’ of securing tests those who need one.

He told MPs the Government would ‘prioritise’ tests ‘to those who most need it’.
