NEW tenants are being encouraged to take over an empty showroom.

The building in Barrow has been placed on the market to prospective suitors willing to pay £1,666 a month in rent.

The Roose Road site is owned by Steele's Removals.

The site was previously earmarked for use as a superstore for Age UK as the charity looked to provide funds for services in Barrow.

The building was previously listed with estate agents Corrie and Co.

A listing said: "Calling all investors. This is an amazing opportunity to rent a well maintained and spacious commercial premises.

"Located close to the town centre, this premises comes with spacious and secure parking, as well as five roller shutter high bay doors that lead and provide access to the main building.

"The property has been fully refurbished and is ready for business."

A further description of the site said: "These are well located, prominent commercial premises fronting the busy Roose Road, one of the principle access roads in and from the town centre.

"There are secure parking areas to each side of the building and good vehicular access to the side with the shutter doors."

Age UK South Lakeland submitted plans for the large shop to Barrow Borough council planners, which the elderly persons’ charity said would help protect key services in the area following public health funding cuts that came into effect last year.

Bosses from the charity then pulled the plug on plans for a new superstore.
