A WOMAN who stole more than £7,000 from the shop where she worked to fund a gambling habit is due to be sentenced at a crown court this week.

Victoria Robertson was previously hauled before magistrates after she stole the money from Howdens Joinery in Barrow, where she worked as the assistant manager.

A court heard that the defendant could be facing a year behind bars after she pleaded guilty to the offence at South Cumbria Magistrates’ Court.

Her case was sent to the crown court after being deemed too serious for magistrates to sentence.

The 42-year-old was said to have taken various sums of money between January 10 2019 and July 29 2020, totalling £7,115.12.

The court heard previously that she had taken amounts of money of up to £3,500 from the Ashburner Way business, part of chain with 700 branches.

Robertson is due to appear at Preston Crown Court, where she will be sentenced on Friday.
