AN Ulverston based seafood shop has gone from strength to strength during the coronavirus pandemic bringing fresh fish to people's doorsteps.

The Lake District Lobster and Seafood Company provide the freshest cuts of prime fish caught by their own staff members sourced from sustainable contacts. They even plan to extend the business to include a restaurant following the success their sushi range.

The Mail:

From their shop based on Market Street they supply nearby and distant hotels and restaurants as well as over the counter from friendly staff.

The business has been going for six years after owner Chris Sanders decided to turn his love of fishing into a job and cut out the middleman in the supply chain.

This previous winner has been given special recognition for what he has done for those in the Furness community throughout lockdown as The Mail was overwhelmed with nominations.

The Mail:

They have been running a home delivery service at no extra cost in a Covid safe and timely manner.

One nomination said: "The father-of-three has provided not only a selection of fresh and amazing fish to his customers, but took the time to provide other produce such as eggs and vegetables. He has also ensured that his customers have been safely cared for."

Another said: "Mr Sanders has remained a cheerful person, looking on the bright side of this horrendous time and tried his very best to deliver the best service he possibly could."

"We have taken in two new full-time staff to take on the workload," the 32-year-old owner said.

"It has been great, people have realised during lockdown that they need to support local businesses.

"I go all over doing deliveries of fish, I have been to Settle in Yorkshire.

"We have got great contacts for suppliers from all over now as well.

"We still get out and catch ourselves, and have even got a bigger boat now.

"We are looking to extend to get a restaurant in the near future, with possibilities of sushi and Ramen.

"I feel like we have shined through in this tricky time.

"It is great to get all the nominations, it makes me feel proud."
