CHARGES in one of Ulverston’s town centre car parks have been reduced to just 50p an hour.

Prices to park in Ulverston’s largest town centre car park, Buxton Place, have reduced to 50p for one hour and £1 for two hours, thanks to a two-year initiative by Ulverston Town Council and Ulverston BID.

The scheme has been propped up by an annual £35,000 subsidy paid to South Lakeland District Council (SLDC) jointly by Ulverston Town Council and Ulverston Business Improvement District (BID).

Ulverston mayor Cllr Sharon Webster said: “We would like to thank SLDC for agreeing to support this very important town initiative. We know that car parking income is important for the district council to keep council tax charge down. However, the cost of car parking has been seen as a real challenge.”
