When the Government announced that the pubs could finally re-open, I think many people joined in with a collective sigh of relief.

It was the sign that some things were returning to normal, a sign that you could go out and see friends and socialise but all in a sensible manner.

Since the start of July, when the UK's watering holes did opened their doors again, we have heard stories about rules being broken and Covid outbreaks in pubs.

I think that was always going to be par for the course with a virus that is still circulating among our society.

Locally this week, the reality that Covid is still among us has really hit home with the confirmation of two positive cases, at a pub in Dalton, and yesterday at the Barrow Raiders beer garden.

As we have heard from the establishments and the public health team for Cumbria, both incidents were well dealt with and contact was made with potentially effected people immediately.

The response has been great, but it shows that people still need to be wary, and that we are not out of the woods yet.

The positive case at Craven Park came after club officials put a temporary ban on under 21s, after a staff member was assaulted at the beer garden recently.

After further discussion it has been lifted. That incident, and the positive cases shows that people need to remain sensible now some of their liberties have returned.
