A pub goer who attended the Barrow Raiders beer garden over the weekend has tested positive for Covid-19, the club has confirmed.

Speculation grew earlier this week that a member of the public, who had attended the club's new Craven Park beer garden over the weekend, had since tested positive for the virus.

On Tuesday both the club and the Director of Health for Cumbria, Colin Cox, confirmed they had not been made aware of the case.

However today the club confirmed in a statement on its Facebook page that a case has been confirmed.

In the statement, a club representative explained that there is no suggestion the virus was contracted at the beer garden.

The group of people who were with the individual who has tested positive have been contacted by the track and trace system, and have been told to self isolate.

However with the beer garden being outdoors, and due to good social distancing measures, others who attended Craven Park on Sunday do not need to self isolate.

A post on the club's Facebook page stated: "Barrow Raiders are aware that there has been intense speculation of there being someone at our Beer Garden on Sunday that has subsequently tested positive for COVID-19.

"As soon as we heard the rumours we were in touch with the NHS Track and Trace team. We can confirm that there was someone in attendance that has subsequently tested positive.

"There is no suggestion that this was contracted at the event but earlier in the week, although the positive result wasn't received until Tuesday.

"We have taken advice from the Director of Public Health for Cumbria, Colin Cox, and all people that were in the immediate group have been contacted individually and asked to self isolate.

"Due to the event being outdoors and physical distancing was for the most part in place there is not a requirement for all guests to be tested or self-isolate. Of course if symptoms do develop then you should book a test irrespective of whether you have been to the ground."

The club has also confirmed additional cleaning measures at being taken.

The statement added: "For our part we booked additional cleaning and hope to share some videos later from our partners Miticlean that showed how extensively they did the job.

"This despite COVID not being known to last over 72 hours on surfaces which will have long passed before we next open. We hope this statement provides some level of reassurance."

It comes after The Bridge in Dalton was forced to close its doors after a customer had tested positive for the virus.
