IT was a very happy 100th birthday for one resident of Grange-over-Sands.

George Caunt celebrated his big day on August 1, and coronavirus did not get in the way of the centenarian’s celebrations.

Friends, neighbours and members of Grange Forum, of which Mr Caunt has been a member for more than 30 years, congregated on his driveway and presented him with cards and hampers.

His friend Ann Anderson said Mr Caunt was overwhelmed and touched by the gesture.

“We all sang Happy Birthday and gave three cheers to him,” she said.

“He has been a member of Grange Forum for more than 30 years joining when he moved to Grange from Morecambe all those years ago.

“We wish him many more happy years ahead.”

Mr Caunt was overjoyed to receive his celebratory card from the Queen, which he proudly showed to his group of loved ones from his doorway.

Mr Caunt has two children, three grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

“He’s just the best man ever, he’s a wonderful person,” said granddaughter Emma.

During a long weekend of celebrations Mr Caunt received visits from several family members.

“He’s got a lovely lot of cards and presents,” said Lindsay Coopland, Mr Caunt’s daughter.

“He’s got quite a sweet tooth so he’s got lots of chocolate and honey and things like that.”
