Firefighters from Workington and Whitehaven were called to the scene of a traffic collision at Distington.

At shortly before 6pm yesterday, crews from both fire stations were scrambled to reports of a road traffic collision at Tollbar Houses.

On arrival, firefighters found that two cars had "collided", though a spokesman for Whitehaven fire station explained that "thankfully both drivers were out of the vehicles uninjured.

"Crews checked to ensure that both drivers were OK and there was no risk of either vehicle catching fire," the spokesman said.

"Unfortunately one of the vehicles had hit a garden wall causing damage to the premises' gas inlet supply.

"Crews used a gas survey meter to check for signs of leakage and requested gas utilities to attend to ensure safety for the house occupants."
