SWINDON is set for a scorching end to the week as a heatwave sweeps across England.

The town is forecast to see a high of 30C on Friday staying sunny all day.

On Saturday, temperatures could reach 27C by mid-afternoon.

This comes after a cloudy start to the week with it only getting as hot as 22C.

The Met Office has issued a yellow heat heath alert for the southwest as warm air spreads north from France.

An amber alert is in place for east and southeast England.

Chief meteorologist of Met Office Frank Saunders said: β€œMost of us will see a spell of warm, summery weather later this week, with hot weather developing across southern parts of the UK.”

The UV index is issued at 7, which is high, meaning those going out in the sun should wear sunscreen and seek shade around midday.

The highest temperature reached so far this year is 37.8C recorded at Heathrow on July 31.
