Children in Millom would enjoy the friendly competition brought about by the inter school sports day and The Mail was there to see the budding athletes.
In 1992, Black Combe School were the hosts as Thwaites saw off some stiff competition to be crowned small school champions with 43 points.
Their margin of victory was a handsome one as Captain Shaw's School, Bootle and Waberthwaite were joint-second, nine points back on 34.
In the larger school category, hosts Black Combe finished well clear at the top with 142 points, with Haverigg finishing second on 103 points and St James's, Millom third with 97.
There were plenty of talented teams for 1997's event, which was held at Haverigg Primary School and there were some close finishes in some of the races.
This included the Year 4 boys' obstacle race, which saw Black Combe's Daniel Pattinson finish just ahead of Haverigg's Robert Iveson.
He wasn't the only medallist from Black Combe on the day, with Emma Bannister, Louise Higginson and Shauna Donoghue all winning their races.
There were also some great performances from the likes of Thwaites, St James's, Millom, Waberthwaite and Broughton on a day where everyone who competed enjoyed the day.
