SEVERAL reactivated road closures in Barrow are due to lift today.

Drivers have been temporarily unable to travel along sections of Manor Road and where Yarlside Road meets both Parkhouse Road and Holbeck Road in Barrow.

The closures were made to allow for maintenance works to take place, as part of the county council's ongoing surface redressing programme, which have been taking place this week along a number of key routes across the south of the county.

The county council says that, through this programme, the service life of the approximately 7,900km-long highway network in the county can be extended dramatically at around one tenth the cost of resurfacing.

Other routes that have been closed temporarily to facilitate the maintenance works include Swarthmoor Hall Lane in Ulverston, White Gill Lane in Bardsea, Askew Gate Brow in Kirkby-in-Furness, Hutton Lane in Levens, Nanny Pie Lane in the South Lakes and the Middle Foulshaw Farm stretch of road along the A590.

Road authorities and the county council have thanked the public for their patience during this time.
