A TEEN has received global attention after discovering a World War Two dog tag while out on a family walk.

Max Hazlehurst, from Askam, was walking with his family on Black Combe when he found a dog tag belonging to William Earnest Wills, an officer in the Royal Australian Airforce who trained in the area during the war.

The 13-year-old, who attends Ulverston Victoria High School, has been inundated with attention since the discovery, and has even made contact with Mr Wills’ family.

His mum Catriona Hazlehurst said: “An Australian crew has been over to interview him and helped us contact the family. It’s all very emotional.

“They were absolutely thrilled we found it - you could tell how much it meant to them.”

The media attention has reinforced his hopes to travel to Australia.
