The Barrow Savoyards group sadly dissolved last year after decades of entertaining the people of Furness with their performances from Gilbert and Sullivan's comedic operas.
The Mail often brought publicity to their productions, including The Sorcerer in 1998, where the group brought the wit and wisdom of the legendary composers to Forum 28.
Peter Dyer was in charge of music for the show, which was directed by Barbara Springthorpe and ran for six nights.
In 1999, the Savoyards performed on of Gilbert and Sullivan's best-loved shows, Pirates of Penzance, a tongue-in-cheek love story of Frederic and Mabel, the bungling of nursery maid Ruth and the ineptness of pirates, police and a major general.
Before the show opened, members of the group had toured schools around the area, running workshops to make children familiar with the show and characters.
After a snap audition, they were then selected to play pirates, policemen and maidens, Frederic, Mabel, Major General Stanley, Ruth and the Pirate King.
The Mail was there for their visit to Abbotsmead Junior School, which came after they had been to Yarlside, St George's, St James', Barrow Sixth Form College and George Romney School, Dalton.
