There are so many good folks and I love the community spirit, if people shared knowledge and were trained on how to start their own collectives and groups this could make a real difference. Give Barrovians the tools they need and stop disregarding their thoughts! Surely those that live there know what will help their local area?"

Kelsey Griffiths said: "I think it’s a great idea and people need to move with the times change is happening I think flats above and nice little Boutique quirky shops and beneath would be great or little tea rooms craft shops is just what we need and id love it I hate shopping in big shops now I’d rather do clothes shopping on line but I do love the kid of shops you get up lakes York and places or just smaller shops with some individuality."

Lesley Robson said: "Ridiculous idea putting more flats there , they’ve already changed one store into flats there and surely it would hinder any future development of the area which in this current climate could easily become derelict space with a few flats above."

John Wadsworth said: "New Considering Portland Walk was purpose built I think they should be reserved for commercial use only. You might not see more clothes shops setting up. But I think Barrow should take a leaf (no pun intended) from Amsterdam's book and have a few bars and cafes with seating areas outside. The biggest problem with this town is people with a lack of vision."

Karen Johnson said: "Before planning permission is granted I think that BBC need to make sure that this fits in with the future vision of the town, it’s not just top shop, the two units adjacent are empty and the one opposite. Is this the answer? I’m not sure."

Jenny Fazackerley said: "Yes, affordable and manageable retail units are what we need to encourage independents to move onto the high street. Shopping isn't dead, it certainly isn't for my lovely customers."
