RESCUERS were called out after a woman tripped and injured her ankle while walking a mountain pass in the Lake District.
Wasdale Mountain Rescue Team (WMRT) was called out to the incident at Sty Head, which runs between Scafell Pike and Great Gable, at around 6.20pm on Saturday.
The woman, 64, had injured her ankle. There was no phone signal at her location so her husband walked to the nearest farm to summon help.
A WMRT spokesman said: "He was able to give a good description of the location some 200 to 300 metres beyond the intake wall on the lower Sty Head path.
"The first team members on scene found the casualty just beyond the intake wall, having been carried there piggy-back by a passing paramedic! Many thanks to him for that and for his medical help."
The woman's leg was splinted and she was transported to an ambulance waiting at Burnthwaite.
The WMRT spokesman said the weather was dry but the ground was 'exceptionally wet' underfoot following heavy overnight rain.
