THE winners of a children's art competition which aimed to bring a little happiness into people's lives will be awarded their prizes today.

Castlegate Surgery and Pharmacy launched The BIG Community Children’s Art Competition in May.

It wanted to help bring a boost to the local community by sharing the work of local youngsters centred on the theme of happiness.

The surgery is hosting a prize-giving party in its car park between 2pm and 3pm today, where the winners and runners-up will receive books and art materials worth up to £100.

Entrants were asked to create an A4 picture - a collage, drawing or painting - about happiness and were judged in three age groups – three to six years, seven to 10, and 11 to 14.

All designs will be included in a community digital exhibition project and the winning pictures will be printed on the surgery's delivery vans and material so they can be seen throughout the community.
