PLANS to build a new indoor training facility for Wath Brow Hornets look set to get the green light from Copeland Council.

The amateur rugby league team has applied to the council for permission to erect a training barn near its pitch, changing rooms, clubhouse and car park at Cleator Moor.

The application is set to be considered by the council's planning panel next Wednesday and a report prepared ahead of that meeting has recommended it be approved, subject to conditions to mitigate some concerns raised by neighbours.

The report said: "The training barn is required to allow the club teams and members to train all year round and in inclement weather."

The barn is expected to be built on the existing car park and would result in 15 new spaces needing to be created on the site.

It would be used between 5pm and 8pm on weekdays and 12pm and 8pm on weekends.

Two letters of objection from neighbours raised concerns about the design and scale of the barn and said houses on Trumpet Road would suffer a loss of light.

They also said drainage was already an issue and felt the development would cause noise and disturbance, highway safety issues, reduce the value of their houses and obstruct their view of the fells.
