THE best and worst GP surgeries in Barrow - as rated by patients - have been revealed in a recent survey.

The annual GP Patient Survey collects patient feedback on surgeries up and down the country.

The survey asked residents for their opinions on practices, measuring their experiences on a range of topics including the ease of making appointments, waiting times, the quality of care given, practice opening times and out-of-hours services.

The number of surveys completed varies from surgery to surgery, and does not represent every patient who is registered at any one centre.

Scoring highest out of Barrow GP surgeries for ‘overall experience’ was Liverpool House Surgery in Risedale Road - 94 per cent of patients who completed the survey said their overall experience was good or very good.

In second place was Abbey Road Surgery which scored a satisfaction rating of 93 per cent.

And Duke Street Surgery clocked up a 91 per cent patient ‘good’ score, ranking it in third place for GP surgeries in Barrow.

At the other end of the scale, Risedale Surgery in Gloucester Street was rated lowest out of the Barrow GP surgeries, coming in at 73 per cent.

And hovering just above was The Family Practice on Hartington Street which scored a patient satisfaction rating of 77 per cent.

Coming in at the middle was Norwood Medical Practice in Abbey Road - where 86 per cent of patients who completed the survey said their overall experience was good or very good.

And finally, just above that was Bridgegate Medical Centre which scored a patient satisfaction rating of 87 per cent.

The majority of surgeries in Barrow scored above the national average patient rating of 82 per cent.

The Morecambe Bay CCG was also above the national average, coming in at 87 per cent for patient approval rating.

Out of the statistics, 50 per cent of patients said their overall experience was ‘very good’ and 37 per cent said ‘fairly good’.
