The Mail readers have given their view on Barrow MP Simon Fell's bid to to see a ‘super-cycleway’ scheme along the A590.

Adam Parkinson said: "The only plus to this is, if parts of any disused/abandoned railway bridges, footpaths and roads are to be repurposed for the proposed cycle way then local construction/civil engineering companies should be given first refusal in the tender process. Not simply given to the lowest bidder from outside of the south lakes area. Give local companies the work and help generate jobs to assist with the local economy. I’d be interested in seeing the proposed plans and route, and hope it’s not just a case of wasting money by simply painting a two foot wide section of both sides of the A590 from Walney to Ulverston and back.

Simon Silvie said: "Cyclists don't use the cycleways we already have. By all means build a new one, once people learn to use the existing ones."

Dave Baker said: "The road is not up to scratch already so a cycleway unless off road is of no use anyway."

Richard Howsley said: "Getting the backing is one thing, getting the money to actually do it is a completely different kettle of fish."

Ged Corner said: "It has only been mentioned in parliament, it means nothing."
