A PUBLIC servant is launching a new community project - with some family help.

MILLOM mayor Angela Dixon, her husband, and dedicated team have been working hard to achieve a multi-functional ‘Meals on Wheels’ hub in the towns network centre.

Unit three of Millom Network Centre is currently undergoing a revamp ready for the next step in it’s adventure.

Mayor Cllr Angela Dixon said: “We have delivered food for four months from my house - at the moment ‘Around the Combe’ are doing it for people who desperately need it.

“Once we get unit three sorted we will be doing it from there.

“I donated £1,000 from the Mayor’s appeal to unit three to get the kitchen. It will cost about £2,000 to get it set up with all of the equipment that we will need.

“We are going to have a charity shop down unit three as well and the lass who is going to do the Meals on Wheels is going to a little bit of a cafe and supply all of the factories down there with bacon buns and jacket spuds. It’s all coming too, it’s all like a big whirlwind.” The unit is also going to house STEM events, with one taking place in the beginning of August. The event will see 16 school children there on three separate days. The children will be experimenting with things such as water rockets and will get to enjoy sausage and chips cooked especially by the Mayor.
