THE opening date of Ulverston's Marks and Spencer foodhall - and closure of the Barrow store - has officially been announced.

Marks and Spencer bosses have revealed when they will close the Barrow store on Dalton Road and open the food hall in Ulverston's Beehive Retail Park.

Marks and Spencer on Dalton Road was initially set to close in November 2019 to coincide with the opening of a new M&S foodhall at the Beehive site.

However, due to construction delays the completion date was put back, with bosses only revealing the opening date as Spring.

This was then revised to March, put back once again to May, until bosses finally revealed an opening date of Wednesday July 29.

The food hall will be open from 9am and led by Store Manager, Simon Craig, alongside his team of 60 colleagues.

In line with the opening, M&S in Barrow will close the day before on Tuesday July 28, with most colleagues moving across to the new store.

Store Manager, Simon Craig, who has worked at M&S for 36 years, said: “My team and I are really excited about our new store in Ulverston.

"We’ll be working hard to provide outstanding service and help make every penny count for the community.

"We’re really looking forward to welcoming the community and, when open our store will have measures in place to reflect the latest guidelines, to ensure everyone can shop safely and with peace of mind."

The store will be open Monday to Saturday, 8am until 8pm, and on Sunday from 10am until 4pm.
