TWO hospital workers have been sanctioned by trust bosses after they were alleged to have stolen from the children’s ward.

A nurse is understood to have been among one of the pair who were being investigated following allegations of toys being stolen from the ward at Furness General Hospital.

The trust that oversees FGH in Barrow said it had now concluded internal investigations and disciplinary processes had now been concluded.

A number of charities and community groups have donated toys to the children on the ward.

It was also suggested that money was taken from the ward.

David Wilkinson, the director of people and organisational development for University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust confirmed hospital bosses had taken action against the pair.

Mr Wilkinson said: “We can confirm that allegations of theft were made and, following investigation, appropriate action was taken by the trust.

“The trust have now concluded our internal processes and as a result two colleagues have been issued with disciplinary sanctions.

“We have a duty of confidence towards individual colleagues involved and cannot provide any further comment on this matter.”

The Mail revealed in February that a nurse was facing the sack after bosses from the hospital launched an investigation into the allegations and commenced the disciplinary process.

Mr Wilkinson said at the time that ‘appropriate action’ had been taken following the allegations being reported.

Echoing his more recent statement, he said:“We can confirm that allegations of theft were made and, following investigation, appropriate action was taken by the trust."

Hospital chiefs have not revealed any further details regarding the nature of the allegations and have not confirmed names.

According to NHS surveys, 91 per cent of patients and parents recommend the children’s ward.
