READERS gave their thoughts on speedsters going through the town centre at pace.

Claire Hill said: Sort their exhausts out as well it's like hearing gunshots at 1am. It's not good for residents, especially the old.

Chevonne Shaw said: It is even worse people driving way below limit. I came out of work and was stuck behind a driver going less than 10mph from train station through down past brown cow.

Carl Butler said: You can't educate drivers of today it's too bigger problem on every road people will drive how they want unfortunately.

Nicolas Freeman said: We have the same problem at Roa Island.

Krysia Rumsey said: Okay, how can I run for council? Government will only implement 'humps' when an 'accident or death' has happened.

Christine Mulama said: Get speed cameras up on Chapel Street before someone is killed!

Richard Grimshaw said: It is the same when they are going through Ulverston too!

Greg Rose said: Ban them then scrap their cars.

Angela Walker said: Definitely, but another problem is dangerous parking the junction of Loweswater Terrace onto Hollygate Road is a nightmare! Cars constantly park opposite the junction and either side of it, don’t think these people ever heard of the Highway Code! So dangerous for the residents of Loweswater turning out from the junction.

Darryl Bell said: It happens everywhere around here and we have a lot of built up residential areas so its bad wherever they speed through. At the end of the day it got easier to speed through Dalton when they got rid of the proper speed bumps about 10 or so years ago. You would have to put those back in to have any effect, the only thing is you are then sending them in the direction of the bypass where they then drive even faster.

Sylvia Stoker said: It is time cameras were fitted through the town. The threat of being fined or maybe their licence being taken away may teach them to drive in a responsible way.
