VOLUNTEER lifeboat crews were called out to rescue stranded fishermen.
Barrow's lifeboat service went to the aid of the boat which had become stricken in the Walney Channel.
The volunteer team launched their inshore lifeboat to go to the aid of the vessel, which was stranded in the south end of the channel after losing power.
The call for assistance came at 5.35pm on Wednesday from the HM Coastguard base in Holyhead.
The information received was that a fishing boat, with two crew members on board, had lost engine power in the Haws Point area of the channel.
The ‘Vision of Tamworth’ lifeboat, was launched at 5:50pm.
After the situation was assessed, the decision was made to tow the stricken vessel back to its mooring off Roa Island.
The situation was resolved at 6.30pm, said a spokesman.
