TWO DRUMS of oil were discovered on a beach by the Millom Coastguard.

The five gallon oil drums were discovered at 9:00pm on Wednesday evening on Haverigg beach after a report was made of suspicious items being found.

It is believed these could have caused harm to the environment and they were safely removed.

Due to the location, it is believed they had not been washed up.

Millom Coastguard Rescue Team said: "Two drums were discovered on the beach.

"They appeared to contain used engine oil.

"They were recovered from the beach for disposal by the relevant authority.

"This was to eliminate the chance of any pollution, as one of the containers did not have a cap on it."
